Windshield Wipers Service Video

Windshield wipers sweep water, road film, and salt spray off the glass so you can see clearly. Most drivers only notice them once they fail, usually in the middle of a downpour. When the rubber edge hardens, tears, or stops following the curve of the glass, the wipers can no longer do their job.

This video sets a worn blade next to a new one so you can see the difference. It also shows why the arm and linkage matter as much as the rubber, and how quickly a set can go from fine to unsafe.

A wiper has three main parts: the blade, the arm that presses it against the glass, and the motor and linkage that drive the sweep. Most of the time, only the blade needs replacing. Wiper checks are part of our preventive maintenance service, which covers the small parts that keep a car safe to drive.

A chattering or skipping wiper is not always a blade problem, though. A weak arm spring or a bent frame can cause the same symptom, and no new blade will fix it.

Streaking across your line of sight is often the first sign of wear. To check, run the washer fluid on a dry windshield and watch the sweep. A good blade clears the glass with no bands, no chatter, and no missed strips.

At Spectra Auto Services, our technicians check how each blade clears the glass and test the arm for even pressure across its full sweep. You get DVI photos before any replacement is approved. A blade that still clears cleanly stays on, and we tell you so.

Worn wipers are also a common reason vehicles fail the Maryland safety inspection. Our Maryland State Vehicle Inspection includes wiper replacement on the spot when a blade does not pass.

On icy Frederick County mornings, running the wipers over a frozen windshield nicks the rubber edge, which then streaks the same spot on every pass. Drivers from Walkersville and Middletown often swap blades right after the first hard freeze.

If your wipers streak, chatter, or skip, call (301) 695-5990, or book with Spectra Auto Services in Frederick to have them checked.
