Air Filter Service Video
The engine air filter cleans the air your engine pulls in before it reaches the cylinders. It sits in a plastic airbox and traps dust, pollen, and grit that would otherwise wear the engine and coat the airflow sensor.
This video sets a clean pleated filter next to one that has reached its service interval. It shows how debris builds up in the filter pleats on the side you cannot see from above. This is why a quick glance may not reveal a clogged filter.
A restricted filter makes the engine work harder to breathe. Drivers often notice slower acceleration when merging or climbing hills, and fuel economy can slip over several tanks.
Checking the filter takes only a few minutes. Our technicians open the airbox, inspect the filter pleats, and send you DVI photos so you can review them before approving a replacement. Engine air filter service is part of our preventive maintenance service, built around your factory schedule.
Spring pollen in Frederick County leaves a sticky film on the pleats, and road dust clings to it until the filter clogs well before its mileage suggests. Drivers from Walkersville and Mount Airy often ask us to check it each spring.
If your engine feels sluggish, call Spectra Auto Services at (301) 695-5990, or visit your Frederick auto shop to schedule a filter inspection.
