Tire Replacement Service Video
A tire needs replacing when its tread is too shallow to grip, its sidewall is damaged, or its rubber has aged past its useful life. Worn tires take longer to stop and are far more likely to slide on wet pavement.
This video sets a worn tire next to a new one and shows how tread depth is measured with a gauge. It also walks through the mounting and balancing steps, so you can see what happens once a new tire goes on the wheel.
Tread depth at or below 4/32 of an inch is the practical limit for wet-weather safety, and 2/32 is the legal minimum. The wear bars molded into the grooves show you when a tire is getting close. Tire checks are part of our suspension, steering, and wheel service, since worn parts under the car often show up first as uneven tread.
Sidewall cracks, bulges, or exposed cords mean a tire should be replaced, not repaired. A slow leak that keeps coming back is another warning sign. Tire age also matters because rubber hardens over six to ten years, even if the tread shows little wear.
At Spectra Auto Services, tread depth and tire condition are part of every free multi-point inspection. Our technicians measure each tire and send you DVI photos of the wear pattern. Uneven wear tells us whether an alignment, balance, or suspension problem is wearing your tires out early.
If one edge of the tread is wearing faster than the other, our wheel alignment service can stop the damage before it reaches your next set of tires.
In Frederick County winters, tread rubber that has aged past its prime hardens in the cold and loses its grip on wet or icy roads well before the tread looks worn. Drivers from Middletown and Urbana often ask us to check tire age before the first cold snap.
If your tires look worn or you are not sure how old they are, call Spectra Auto Services at (301) 695-5990, or book auto repair in Frederick to have them inspected.
