Radiator Hose Service Video

A radiator hose carries coolant between the engine and the radiator, so heat pulled off the cylinder walls has somewhere to go. The upper hose feeds hot coolant into the radiator, and the lower hose returns cooled fluid back to the water pump.

This radiator hose video shows where each hose sits under the hood and explains how the reinforced rubber layers work. It also shows what a failing hose looks like when it starts to swell or crack. Under normal operation, the hose flexes with engine movement and holds pressure that can climb above 15 psi when the system is hot.

Wear shows up in a few predictable ways. A radiator hose that feels spongy when squeezed while cold or shows fine cracks near the clamps may be deteriorating. Green or orange coolant stains on the pavement can also indicate a leak. These signs suggest the hose may be breaking down and needs inspection.

Under-hood heat ages a radiator hose from the inside, and Frederick’s winter cold leaves it brittle enough to split at the clamp collars where it flexes most. Our technicians inspect each hose for swelling, soft spots, and coolant seepage. We then pressure-test the cooling system to determine whether the leak comes from a hose, radiator, or water pump.

When testing points to a hose or a related cooling issue, our cooling, AC, and heating system repair service covers the full scope of what that involves. Drivers from Walkersville and Urbana come to Spectra Auto Services when a hose weeps, before it can burst.
