Oil Change Service Video
Engine oil coats every moving part inside the engine, carrying heat away from the pistons and bearings while suspending combustion byproducts so they can be filtered out. The oil filter traps that debris before it recirculates and scores metal surfaces.
This video walks through what happens during an oil change, from draining the old oil to seating a fresh filter and refilling with the correct grade. Between services, the oil pump pushes lubricant through the block under pressure whenever the engine is running.
Oil that has passed its service interval starts to look and act different. Engine oil darkens as it collects soot and can lose its protective properties as additives break down. If the oil level drops too low, you may notice a low-oil warning light or a tapping noise from the top of the engine.
Frederick's cold winter temperatures make engine oil thicker and can delay oil flow to the upper valvetrain during startup. This can increase wear on cam lobes and lifters during the first few seconds after starting the engine. An oil change replaces the oil and filter, checks for leaks around the pan and filter housing, and confirms the level on a warm engine.
When the mileage is up or the light is on, schedule an oil change with Spectra Auto Services. Drivers from Walkersville and Urbana come to Spectra Auto Services to stay ahead of their oil intervals, so sludge never gets a chance to build up.
If the oil life monitor is counting down or you spot drips on the driveway, call (301) 695-5990 or visit your Frederick auto shop to get on the schedule.
